I used to go to this place all the time and just recently started going again. I can't believe I took such a long hiatus! Upon walking in and being greeted by Calvin (the best) and then when digging into a delicious, heaping plate of hot food, I remembered why I loved Bravo so much. I usually go for the mock beef or chicken with asparagus or mushrooms. I haven't had a bad dish from Bravo in a long time (and trust me, I have gone many a time--I work down the street), and whatever was wrong was better on my next visit. On my last visit, I also tried one of their cream puffs for the first time. Wow. It was tasty. I can't wait to visit again.

Vegan Sesame Chicken? Really? I was very skeptical....... but they totally pull it off! My husband and I tried out Bravo! for his birthday dinner this last Friday night, and were very pleased with our experience. It is definitely a unique little place - bakery, coffee shop and vegetarian Chinese food. I had the sesame chicken and he had the chicken and broccoli - both of which were vegan. The last time I remember having sesame chicken was as a child going to the Lee Ann Chin's in the St. Paul Train Depot - so, it had been a while! The "chicken" was made from wheat gluten, deep fried nice and crispy, coated with sauce and accompanied by broccoli and brown (or white, if you choose) rice. It was wonderful! The only thing I would change is the seasoning of the sauce, maybe a little more zip or just seasoning in general. I love heat, so I doused mine with the fresh chili sauce. We can't wait to go back and are already planning to try the Orange Chicken and Dumplings! MMMM!

Sorry Bravo, I won't go out of my way to eat here anymore. My favorite dish here, the mock fish, is no longer vegan (contains whey). I still love you, and it's nice to see that you're evolving, but you messed with my favorite dish. *Stinkeye*

We couldn't have chosen a better baker than Bravo Bakery for our wedding. Guests all loved the taste and texture of the mango cake we served. We've already made one referral to a bridesmaid getting married this fall. Everyone who sees the photos compliments our head table cake's beauty. Delivery was smooth and on time. To make things easy for the caterers, Bravo pre-scored our sheet cake and made sure each serving had fruit on it. We'll be back for our anniversary!

I do not think I could order a birthday cake from anywhere else. Their mango cake is just that good. Light, creamy, presenting true mango flavor, with whipped dreamy frosting. Yes, I am gushing, which is not like me, but this is for real. Great for baby showers or any other event. Even my dessert-averse Dad likes this cake. Large variety of sizes, styles, and flavors.

I came in here just to order the cream puff, which was great, but while I was deciding, some guy just gave me a piece of mango cake on his own fork just to get me to try it. I totally took it. Talk about Minnesota Nice!

Heck yes! Tiramisu=rad, mango cake= 3 layers of mangotastic rice flour cake! Pan fried dumplings = 15 (yes, 1-5!) delicious treats complete with the traditional "dippin' sauce". Yum! Inexpensive, cute little nook of a place= love! It's 2 doors down from the Uptowner so street parking is decent on weekdays, well summer weekdays anyway.

Cheap, huge, and good always gets high marks in my book. The cafe serves full Chinese entrees, but also functions as cafe and bakery. The space is too small for groups; there aren't many tables to begin with. I'm sure I had one of their meatless chicken dishes with brown rice. The price to portion ratio was great, and the food wasn't bad at all. I had one of their sponge cakes (which I can't recall whether or not it was vegan), but I do remember it being quite tasty. The place is all very inconspicuous. Just walking by, you'd never guess it was a bakery that served as a vegetarian Chinese eatery on the side.

They have wonderful durian cake here

Our visit produced delicious bubble tea, mango cake, and cream puffs -- all of these treats were excellent. Bubble tea not too sweet, mango cake just sweet enough (with chunks of mango in it!), cream puff -- well, I devoured mine so fast it's kind of hard to remember now how to describe it. But the food was utterly bland. Utterly. Bland.

Great little place! I have many fond memories of this bright and cheery cafe, whether it was meeting old frineds or going on a first date. I spent many a cold Minnesota winter's night getting takeout from Bravo!, and many a warm afternoon at a table in front of the restaurant sipping bubble tea and practicing my Chinese with their newspapers. The food is simple but great! The vegan sweet and sour chicken is just like I remember (but better!) and I can't believe how good an imitation the fish is. I remember a "tofu in brown sauce" being particularly good as well. The family who owns the cafe is wonderful and very helpful, and I love how they remembered me every time I would come in, and knew that I was vegan and didn't want non-dairy creamer in my bubble tea.

I love love love love love green tea cake with red bean filling. Bravo's is outstanding! It's made with real whipped cream and fresh toppings (often fruit - real fruit -- not jellied stuff from a can) to boot. I cannot recommed another cake it town as wholeheartedly as that from Bravo! Oh-- if you are a die-hard chocolate ganache fan you may convert after trying their mango cake:)

With a full vegetarian-only menu at such a low cost ($6.50 per entree), you really can't beat this place. Sure, it might not be a gourmet feast, but if you're in the mood for quick Asian-influenced vegetarian fare, this is a great place. Deserts are great too.

We ordered a vegan green tea with adzuki bean filling cake from them for our wedding. It was really, really good, especially with the cute fruit decorations on top, which were arranged to look like flowers (and parsley for leaves, which just added to the general awesomeness). The cake was light and spongy and had a great texture, and wasn't too sweet. We were a bit nervous with wedding planning, because they asked us to order the cake just a few days ahead of time (and who isn't stressed about getting everything about their wedding squared away ahead of time?), but everything worked out fine. It was just the "we haven't ordered the cake and it's 4 days before the wedding" thing that was stressful. I guess that's how they operate, cause they're such a small bakery. Anyway, we were happy with it!

The food is mediocre at best. I've been here more than once and they've disappointed me every time. My friends dish tasted like they accidentally dropped a pound of sugar into. Don't expect much service. The don't bring you pepper when you ask for it and they won't refill you water. Maybe that's not be to be expected but they should make that clear by not bringing us the food. It's also bizarre that the workers will sit down near you and carry out very loud conversations. I had to raise my voice so that my friend could hear me. Avoid!

I love this place! When I step into the small cafe I don't feel as if I'm in St. Paul. It's got a nice atmosphere with a super friendly staff. The menu is all vegetarian and half is vegan! Best of all the food is set at $5 a plate and we're talking a good portion at that. The drinks are just as good, try the green tea latte' it's really good. The first time I had their cream puffs i vowed to never go long without one. It's weired I've never had there espresso i just have always wanted tea with my food, but the espresso machine is impressive and there grinder is professional. And knowing the staff it's probably taken very seriously.

Their cake is good. Not great, but good. Their food is okay. The sauce is way too strong, but it is still edible.

  • Phil M.

The food is very good, the atmosphere is quaint and relaxing, the cakes are nothing less than fabulous and the prices are exceptionally reasonable. I am not much of a dessert guy but absolutely love the cake. I have tried the chocolate, mango, pineapple and mocha and they were all incredibly delicious. I am not sure how some of the previous reviews could say the cakes are average. Perhaps the reviewers are used to eating lard or crisco based frosting that is very heavy. Bravo frosting is very light, delicious and eating the cake is almost refreshing. As for the parking, there is a little lot behind the building reserved for the several businesses there. I have yet to go there and not be able to find a space, and its free. Hidden little places like this are a real gem so go and check it out if you have not been there and order dessert...a whole slice. I highly recommend the 'spare ribs and asparagus' entree.

I'd been looking all over for a cheap Asian vegan place when I stumbled across Bravo. I ordered the string beans with "tuna;" the beans were super fresh and crispy and the sauce was savory but not overpowering. The "tuna" was not unusual, but a good example of its kind. My esteemed colleague ordered the orange chicken, which was crispy and sweet. The cakes are also good: the one we tried had too much whipped cream for my taste, but I usually eat vegan, so that's hardly a criticism. Light and fluffy, not too sweet, nice secret fruit.

  • Hung N.

I tried mango, pineapple and green tea cakes, and the both the fruit cakes were super delicious. The sponge was moist and icing was tasty with fruity flavor. Green tea is also good.

Bravo is a small Asian Cafe & Bakery located on Grand Ave. Although Bravo provides a nice seating area to drink coffee or bubble tea while talking with friends or studying, the Bakery itself is what makes this place unique. They provide their customers with an amazing selection of deliciously crafted and colorful cakes for any occasion. (Go Online) Best of all, if you're a new customer and unfamiliar with their cakes, they have a cute cake display where you can purchase a slice for around $3.50.. the delicious flavoring and perfect amount of texture is unbeatable.

  • Erin G.

They had a bunch of pretty little fruit flavored cakes on display but I am more of a chocolate sweets person so I skipped over those. Cream puff was good. Nothing special. Overall decent place.

Best cakes in town. The reason I gave them one star is because of the way the owner treated their workers. Went there to inquire about wedding cakes. When one of the workers ask for help, the owner was quite rude, belligerent, and disrespectful. Not cool, specially in front of customers. After seeing that drama, we decided not to inquire about wedding cakes.

My family always comes here for our cakes! We absolutely love Taro! I am someone that hates getting taro bubble tea or taro anything, but this cake is an exception! You can taste actual taro in their cakes. Soooo amazingly delicious!

obvious favorite are green tea cake and mango cake. the taro cake is bland. be sure to special order cakes, they are fresher and taste better than the slices sitting int he case BEST CREAM PUFFS

They have the best fruit decorated cakes. So far green tea is my favorite flavor but I've also enjoyed Mango. They also have decent bubble tea. Not the widest selection but enough to get by. Their tea and coffee is decent as well. I don't think they are as well known for their food but I have tried it and it is ok. Last time I bought a gift set of Pineapple cake to give to my boyfriend's mom. She loved them. Also, it looks like they sell out of creme puffs pretty fast so try visiting earlier if you want a taste of them.

I've ordered birthday cakes here for years and recommended this place to a lot of my friends. Honestly, I like their cakes, but the service is poor. I talked to a lady there about ordering a cake and she was really rude which made me so mad that I wanted to talk to the manager/ owner, and turned out she the owner. I will never come back here again even though I like their cakes. Horrible service!

I've had Bravo! bookmarked to review since last December and I'm finally getting to it now because I'm ridiculously diligent like that. But regardless, a matter of months doesn't change the results: BRAVO! IS OPEN ON CHRISTMAS EVE. So, if ever you're stuck driving around the Twin Cities looking for something to do, you can come here, for some mediocre boba milk tea and delicious cream puffs. It'll warm the winter chills, but not the pathethicness, away. (Disclaimer: the sillier and more ignorant half of my girl gang refutes my cream puff claim. They say there's too much cream. But you can ignore them. They live in caves. Dark caves. With no wifi or taste.)

I come from a Vietnamese family and my husband is Laotian and we both grew up on Chinese style cakes with fruit and whipped topping. There are limited choices to where you can buy these cakes in Minnesota, it's down to two and Bravo has a great variety and better decorations. I've ordered cakes from here several times, the most recent for my brother's graduation party, we got a green tea with fruit cake and added the graduation cap decoration for an additional cost. They make it easy to order online if you aren't going to be too specific on how you want it to look and the pricing is resonable for what you get. The cake was a hit and it was gone in literally 10 minutes. People were grabbing a slice for themselves and then coming back to get more for the rest of their table at the party. I highly recommend their cakes as they are not too sweet and can feed a lot of people. We are already going to be ordering another cake for my son's third birthday later this month. It is worth the drive for us from Maple Grove since we know everyone will love the cake flavor we choose and if you can get my whole family to eat it (not everyone likes sweets and dessert) then you have a winner.

This is my absolute number one place to get birthday cakes for my friends. Great asian style cakes with real fruits and home made crime. They also have small asian assorted snacks. For hot foods, they serve vegetarian food. Although I haven't had any, I hear from my friends that it is delicious. It's best to call ahead and order if you want specific cakes. The lady is super nice and she is likely to speak mandarin with you if you know it. The sitting maybe small, but it is very cozy inside if you choose to eat in. Great cakes period.

Update: They have the hands-down best cream puff I've ever had. It's essential a cream puff with some type of crunchy cookie topping on top with not-just-any filling. Some kind of custard/whip cream mixture. It's just divine. And they are huge! I can't count the number of times I try to save it for when I get home, but I end up just eating in the car and getting powdered sugar all over myself.

This place has such delicious cakes; it's a pity that they can't get their customer service up to the same level. Tonight I went in to pick up a cake we ordered online. I walked in, and the two people behind the counter were too busy playing on their phones to notice me. When they finally glanced up, all I got was a "what do you want". No hello, no smile. Seriously is that too much to ask? I paid for the cake, and at this point it was pretty much as expected: they didn't even say thank you. A little courtesy would go a long way.

I've came here a couple of times in the last week and so far really love it. The cream puffs are delicious and so is the tea! If you're big on fruit teas, I would highly recommend the passion fruit tea (cold) with lychee popping boba. You won't regret it!

  • Morgan A.

Amazing value, very good food, what's not to love. The only thing I can fault this place for is that their to go boxes are flimsy beyond belief (eco-friendly ones that collapse under the moisture from your food) and *maybe* their location but that's a stretch. I stopped in today and grabbed the kung pao mock beef and it was *amazing* o..o. It was probably amongst the best vegetarian asian dishes I have had in a long time. The sauce was probably the best kung pao sauce I have ever had and as others have stated, they do nail the protein:vegetable ratio well. I would probably take them as my number one chinese joint if it wasn't a long trek from Minneapolis to that section of St. Paul. I will likely try their baked goods next time I am in.

A must go to in Minnesota. It's hard to find Asian bakeries in the state, and when I came here with my friend, it was nice to have options. Fairly priced, though it's small inside.

The cream puffs here are the best thing ever! Delicious, fluffy and filled with delicious cream. BF said he would love the pastry even it was empty. I want the cream because it tastes delicious, but I agree with him, it would be a good pastry even empty. Other than the puffs, they have great cakes and they have tea, even if they don't always have teapots. But they are very nice about not having teapots available. it might take them 20 minutes, but they will find a solution and bring you your tea in some makeshift teapot. The best puffs in town really worth the trip!

  • Linda L.

I have not tried their food but I love going here for the cake, smoothies and bubble teas. The cream puffs are to die for! I absolutely love their whipped cream, nice thickness and not overly sweet. I think their cake and cream puffs are perfect who like just a light sweetness. My mom loves their cake and she's not much of a sweets type of person.

I have known for some time that Bravo Café was renowned for their wonderful cream puffs. So, on a recent canoe trip I decided to pick some up for a desert to match the beer and sandwiches. I normally don't really care for cream puffs, but these are real good. This is because they are not too big, but still fully satisfying and the cream is not sickeningly sweet. I think the flavor goes more on the subtle and almost butter milk type flavor side in their cream which makes for a much more satisfying cream puff. Now, I realize that Bravo Café does do other sorts of baking and they seem to offer a nice selection of standard coffee beverages, but I was not able to try any of that. However, if they can make an awesome cream puff, I am sure they can figure out decent cup of coffee. So, moral of the story is next time you want a pastry get yourself a cream puff from Bravo.

THE CREAM PUFF!!! Went in only knowing it was a chinese bakery, and I wanted an chinese egg tart. They did not make them (a chinese bakery with no egg tarts!! for shame!) But I got over it when I bit into the cream puff. WOW! Silky milky cream, not to sweet and great pastry. Probably the best cream puff I've had. Lychee smoothie was awesome too, I will definitely be back!

Lite cream, great vegetarian food, small and cute place. Their cakes and pastries are similar to ones in Asia. Not too heavy on the cream with lots of fruits and beautiful cakes. The seating area is small but it's an awesome place to hang out. They serve coffee, latte, and tea as well. Free wi-fi, nice tea and coffee, great cake. What's not to like? They also offer catering service as well if you are looking for a caterer or veggie options catering! It's street parking so may be difficult to get to at peak traffic times.

Bravo!!! Not just a clever name!!! I think I've driven past this place a thousand times, yet never thought twice about what was behind the doors. We went on Yelp to find reviews on good Chinese and this was one of the first places reviewed for St. Paul. After reading Cherry L.'s review and seeing that all dishes were vegetarian, we knew this was the place we were going to try. After writing down the address, we hopped in the car and off we went. We knew it was going to be an amazing experience when we got rock star parking, right outside the place. We walked in and sat down at one of the 4 empty tables and were handed menu's by a quite girl working. Every single item on the menu was either vegetarian or vegan and every dish came with either white or brown rice. There were vegetarian chicken, beef, pork and even fish dishes. We went with the chicken and broccoli and beef and asparagus dishes. As we waited for our meals, we decided on getting tea as well. Our server brought out little individual pots of steeping tea and little tea glasses. Out of the blue, the owner of the restaurant came over to talk to us. She was super friendly and warm, wanting to know when we became vegetarian. In broken English, she told us she moved here from NYC (originally from Taiwan) and that she wants to see more vegetarians and that we must have love in our hearts because we are vegetarians. I was surprised at the friendly faces and even more surprised at our amazing food once it came out. By far, this place is now on the top of our list of places to get quick Chinese food, knowing that it's fresh ingredients and all vegetarian. This place is the whole package. Amazing food and amazing owners. As we paid for the meal, the owner asked for our phone numbers because she wanted to invite us to vegetarian parties they some times throw for their patrons. We gave our info and as we headed for the door, every person working there thanked us and said goodbye. The cold Minnesota air couldn't destroy the warmth we had in our hearts for this place as we left. Bravo!!!

Since I found Bravo! on the iPhone app, Veg Out, two months ago, I have been stopping in on a weekly basis in attempts to sample every vegetarian/vegan mock-meat option on the menu! The staff is always friendly and extremely prompt (less than five minute wait between ordering and receiving the meal)! Seating is a bit limited, so bringing a group of more than four could get tight if there are other customers dining-in. Additionally, there are two or three small tables set up outside when the weather is accommodating to outside dining. The portion sizes are huge and each entree is under $7. The sesame "chicken" is currently my favorite meal here. It would be amazing if they had vegan desserts available...maybe someday! Suggestion: Vegans and vegetarians need to check this place out ASAP!

Although their food is edible, it is far from delicous. Mediocore at best. It's like they used a microwave meal and threw a couple chunks of fresh green peppers in to pretend they made it themselves. I have a friend who loves it, but cannot understand why. I didn't try any bakery items so can't say if they are good or not.

Great bubble tea. My husband and I ate here last night and enjoyed it. My husband is easing his way into the vegan diet so we ate here because they serve vegan dishes. I was surprised that the fake meat tasted like meat. I had the Kung pao chicken and brown rice. I didnt enjoy mixed veggies in my dish and would've preferred more traditional veggies instead. The sauce was too thick and not flavorful.y husband liked his dish, the place is tiny and their bakery seems to be doing very well. We would eat here again.

Wonderful bubble tea, new customer but much preferred their balance of sugar and boba varieties to other places I have visited. Love it!

They serve the best Bubble Tea! Own by Taiwanese and Cantonese, they make awesome authentic bubble tea and also cheaper than that other chain.... FOOD: They make these really great vegetarian Chinese rice plates, you will see names like sesame chicken, orange chicken, Peking beef, etc. And YET they are all vegetarian and some of them are vegan :D DESSERT: BEST Asian style desserts, cakes and some other goodies like pudding and puffs. If you are sick (like me) of the boring and way-too-sweet cupcakes and just cakes with icing, you would LOVE this place It has limited seatings but it's never very crowded, they also accept take out and custom-made cake orders. I love this place and its owners :D they are all very nice

Cute little coffee shoppe on Grand. I don't make it to St Paul all that often, but when I venture out, I am usually pleased with what I find. I met an old friend here for a cup of coffee and great conversation, and I enjoyed the environment that it held. The room had many tables and seating options. The larger windows let a lot of light in (and on that day the sun was beating in and it was just getting into the fall so the place did warm up quickly). The selection of drinks and pasteries were great. As most pastries they fall into a category - 'shouldn't have' or 'another!'. This place would be 'Another!'. They were not overly powerful and paired nicely with the coffee. The parking, as expected on Grand Ave would be, can be difficult. I just paid for parking in the ramp across the street, but on a nice day - opt to walk out and enjoy the beautiful neighborhoods.

Dessert review only. Well, how have I not reviewed this place already?? Ive had several visits to this place over the years. My first encounter with their dessert was from trying their taro, mango and green tea cakes. The cakes were moist, light and not overly sweet. Unlike most of the cakes in this country, their cakes dont have this thick sickeningly and grossly sweet frosting, but they have lighter frosting with fresh fruits. Then a couple of years ago, I have encountered their awesome dessert again from trying this light yet rich and creamy tiramisu at my friend's party that someone else brought. We had no idea at first that it was from Bravo! It was REALLY good. Since then I have brought their awesome tiramisu to several parties and always a hit. Oh and how can I not mention their choux cream? It's probably one of the best choux cream Ive had in the States. It's somehow so light so airy but creamy at the same time. Im drooling just thinking about this dreamy choux cream!!

Bravo is a cute little bakery/cafe with an assortment of vegan and vegetarian Chinese dishes and baked products (none of which are vegan anymore, but there are some egg-free options). It's a shame, because their vegan spongecake was super-moist and subtly sweet and one of the best I've had (however, they recently stopped offering it). The food here is super simple and consists primarily of mockmeat Chinese stir-frys. They offer brown rice (topped with sesame seeds) as an option, which is awesome. Each dish costs only $6.44 with tax, and you get a good, solid meal for that price. The food quality isn't the highest---I think the sauces tend to be way too gooey, sticky and sweet, and I'm bothered by having to use plastic utensils and styrofoam cups, but every town needs a vegetarian Chinese restaurant, and I'm glad Bravo is around to fill that niche. This cafe only holds about a dozen people, so space might be an issue for larger parties. The service is always friendly. This is a good place to get a quick, cheap meal, or to get a cup of tea (they also have bubble teas) and read the newspaper.
